Kantipur Max HD to broadcast T20 World Cup 2026 in Nepal and English Commentary
Kantipur Max will broadcast all 55 matches of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup for viewers in Nepal, following an agreement signed between Kantipur Media Group (KMG) and broadcast partner Xtreme Energy Drink.
The deal was formalised at a function held at Hard Rock Cafe in Durbar Marg, Kathmandu, on Wednesday, marking Kantipur Max’s official association with the global tournament.
As part of the broadcast, Kantipur Max will provide Nepali commentary for at least 10 matches, including all games featuring Nepal. Among the two channels—Kantipur Max HD and Kantipur Max 2 HD—one will exclusively air the World Cup with Nepali commentary.
KMG officials said the arrangement aligns with the agreement signed with the International Cricket Council (ICC), which also acknowledged Nepal’s growing cricket culture and fan base during the broadcast rights discussions in Dubai.
Nepal, placed in Group C, will play their group-stage matches against England, Italy, the West Indies and Scotland on February 8, 12, 15 and 17, respectively.
Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) officials expressed confidence in the national team’s preparations and welcomed the inclusion of Nepali commentary, describing it as an important step in strengthening fan engagement and creating opportunities for local commentators.
Kantipur Media Group also highlighted its broader commitment to sports broadcasting, having previously aired major international events such as the Indian Premier League, Wimbledon and the English Premier League. The network believes bringing the T20 World Cup to Nepali households with commentary in the local language will enhance the viewing experience.
Kantipur Max earlier broadcast the second season of the Nepal Premier League with Nepali commentary, which was well received by fans. The channel is also currently airing the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Qualifier, the largest ICC event ever hosted by Nepal.
Meanwhile, the Nepal men’s cricket team is continuing its World Cup preparations with a training camp in Mumbai, following a week-long stint in Sri Lanka. The team is scheduled to play two practice T20 matches against the Mumbai Cricket Association’s President XI before travelling to Chennai for official warm-up games against the UAE and Canada on February 3 and 5.
